Responsibilities
Hexagon's Asset Lifecycle Intelligence division (Hexagon) is seeking a Senior Cloud Operations Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in our America’s region. This role requires expertise in managing both RDS and locally hosted databases in an AWS cloud-based environment. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with MySQL (Aurora a plus) and solid proficiency in MS-SQL, including SSIS. This role is essential in ensuring database reliability, performance, and security while supporting a range of business-critical applications.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Manage and optimize MySQL (Aurora) and MS-SQL databases across AWS RDS and EC2-hosted environments.
- Install, configure, and upgrade database instances.
- Perform regular maintenance, patching, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
- Troubleshoot performance issues and tune queries to improve efficiency.
- Implement database security best practices, including access control and encryption.
- Apply best practices in indexing, partitioning, and schema optimization.
- Collaborate with development teams on database architecture and design.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting and AWS-native tools.
- Support and deploy SSIS packages and ETL pipelines.
- Ensure high availability and scalability through clustering and replication.
- Conduct database health checks and proactively identify improvement areas.
- Create and maintain documentation for configurations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and team goals.
- Job responsibilities may evolve over time based on team and business needs.
- Will require after-hours and weekend work when necessary to support critical systems or deployments.
Education / Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in database administration for MySQL and MS-SQL in cloud and on-prem environments.
- Strong experience with MySQL, including replication, clustering, and performance tuning (Aurora preferred).
- Solid MS-SQL expertise, including SSIS, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Hands-on experience managing databases in AWS RDS and EC2.
- Deep understanding of database best practices, optimization, and security.
- Proficient in scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) and AWS automation tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Familiarity with Agile/DevOps environments.
Preferred
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Familiarity with optimizing databases for AI/ML workloads.
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools.
